Garland style

Belle Époque jewelry of platinum and diamonds in delicate wreaths, bows and lace-like patterns.

Inspired by eighteenth-century ornament, the garland style flourished from around 1900 to 1915. Platinum allowed fine, strong settings that look almost like lace, and Cartier was one of its masters.

What to look for

Look for millegrain edges, which should be crisp, and for broken or repaired sections in the openwork.
