Arts and Crafts
A movement of about 1880 to 1920 that favoured handmade jewelry, simple stones and visible craftsmanship.
Reacting against industrial production, Arts and Crafts jewelers in Britain and America used silver, enamel, moonstone, turquoise and other modest materials, valuing design over intrinsic value. Liberty of London sold a commercial version of the style.
What to look for
Hand-made work shows small irregularities. Signed pieces by known makers are the most collected.
