Archaeological Revival
Nineteenth-century jewelry inspired by ancient Greek, Etruscan and Roman jewels.
Castellani of Rome, founded in 1814, studied excavated jewels and revived the ancient technique of granulation. Carlo Giuliano, who opened in London around 1860, brought the style to Britain.
What to look for
Look for the fine granulation and wirework that mark good work, and check for signatures of the major makers.
