Egyptian Revival

Jewelry inspired by ancient Egypt: scarabs, lotus flowers, sphinxes and hieroglyphs.

Egyptian taste returned several times: after Napoleon’s campaign of 1798, with the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, and above all after the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, which inspired Cartier and other Art Deco houses.

What to look for

Many revival jewels used ancient faience or scarabs set in modern gold. Check the condition of the ancient elements and the quality of the setting.
