Sautoir

A long necklace, often ending in a tassel or pendant, fashionable from the Belle Époque to the 1920s.

A sautoir is a long necklace falling below the bust, often ending in a tassel or pendant. Pearl and diamond sautoirs were the height of fashion in the Belle Époque and the 1920s, when they suited the long, straight lines of the dresses. Long gold chains of the 1970s, worn doubled or knotted, carry on the idea.
