Burmese ruby
Ruby from Myanmar, especially the Mogok valley, prized for its intense red known as pigeon’s blood.
The finest rubies have long come from the Mogok valley in Myanmar, formerly Burma. Their intense, slightly purplish red, often called pigeon’s blood, glows strongly because of the stone’s natural fluorescence. Burmese rubies set the standard against which all rubies are judged.
What to look for
Origin and treatment matter enormously to value. For an important ruby, a report from a leading laboratory stating Burmese origin and no indication of heating is essential.
