Citrine

Yellow to orange quartz, the golden stone of Retro jewelry.

Citrine is yellow to orange quartz. Much of it is produced by heating amethyst. Its golden color suited the gold jewelry of the Retro period perfectly, when large citrines were set in rose and yellow gold, and it returned in the colorful jewels of the 1960s and 1970s.

What to look for

Look for an even, saturated color and good transparency. Large, clean stones are common, so quality of cutting and design matters most.
