Sterling silver

Silver of 92.5 percent purity, marked 925 or Sterling.

Sterling has long been the standard for fine silver in Britain and the United States. Tiffany & Co. adopted it in the nineteenth century, and Georg Jensen made it the material of Danish modern design.

What to look for

Silver tarnishes and wears quickly at high points. Check marks and signatures for wear, and look for solder repairs.
