Peridot

A yellowish-green gemstone, the gem variety of the mineral olivine.

Peridot was a favourite of the Edwardian period, when its fresh green suited the fashion for pale, delicate jewelry, and it returned in the gold jewelry of the 1960s and 1970s.

What to look for

Peridot is softer than quartz and scratches more easily than most gems. Look at the facet edges and the surface of the table for wear.
