Aluminium in jewelry

A light metal that can be coloured, used by some contemporary jewelers beside gold and gems.

Aluminium allows large earrings and brooches that are light enough to wear, and it can be anodised in many colours. JAR, the Paris jeweler Joel Arthur Rosenthal, is the best-known name to use it in high jewelry.

What to look for

Aluminium scratches and dents more easily than gold. Check the coloured surface for wear, which is difficult to restore.
