Panthère de Cartier
Cartier’s panther, the house’s most famous emblem.
The panther first appeared at Cartier in 1914 as a pattern of spotted pavé. Jeanne Toussaint, Cartier’s director of fine jewelry, made it a three-dimensional figure, beginning with a brooch for the Duchess of Windsor in 1948. Panthers have been made in every decade since.
What to look for
Period matters a great deal: early panthers are far more valuable than later ones. Check the signature, number, marks and the quality of the modelling.
