Cocktail ring

A large, bold ring made to be noticed, born in the 1930s and at its height in the 1940s and 1950s.

The cocktail ring is a large, bold ring, often set with a big colored stone or a dome of diamonds, made to be seen across a room with a glass in hand. It is associated with the cocktail parties of the 1930s and became a signature of Retro and mid-century jewelry.

What to look for

Cocktail rings were made at every level of quality. Look at the stones, the setting and the finish of the gold, which separate the great examples from the decorative ones.
