Chrysoprase
An apple-green chalcedony, coloured by nickel.
Chrysoprase was loved by Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewelers for its soft, translucent green, and Van Cleef & Arpels has used it in its jewels for decades. It is usually cut as a cabochon or a bead.
What to look for
The finest chrysoprase is even in colour and translucent. Green-dyed chalcedony can imitate it; colour concentrated in cracks suggests dye.
