The story

Created by Joel Arthur Rosenthal for JAR Paris during the 2010s, these large-model earrings transform an unconventional material into an expressive interpretation of autumn foliage. Each leaf is modeled with an irregular, gently undulating silhouette, its surface articulated by finely traced veins that follow the natural structure of the vine. Graduated tones evoke the transition from summer greenery to the warmer colors of autumn, lending depth and vitality to the composition. Measuring approximately 2.75 inches across, the earrings possess a generous scale, their broad surfaces and softly contoured edges capturing the organic character of leaves suspended in motion.

JAR jewels occupy a singular place in contemporary collecting. Rosenthal is known for producing his work in deliberately limited quantities and for maintaining an unusually discreet presence, making pieces bearing the JAR name relatively scarce on the secondary market. His aluminum creations are a particularly imaginative part of this body of work, using an unexpected material as a vehicle for saturated color, sculptural volume, and his longstanding fascination with flowers, leaves, and the natural world. This pair, preserved with its original JAR pouch, is an especially evocative example.

Two leaves poised at the turning of the season, their fleeting autumn colors given lasting form.
