Melon cut
Beads carved with lengthwise grooves, so that they resemble small melons.
Melon-cut beads, sometimes called fluted beads, are found in hardstones such as lapis lazuli, coral, carnelian and rock crystal. They were especially fashionable in the 1960s and 1970s, strung as necklaces or used as drops.
What to look for
Look for even grooves and matching beads along the strand, and check the drill holes for chips.
