Antique and vintage
Antique usually means at least 100 years old; vintage usually means at least 20 years old.
The 100-year rule comes from United States Customs. Vintage has no legal definition, but in jewelry it usually covers pieces from the 1920s to the 1990s.
What to look for
A dealer should be able to explain how the period of a piece was determined.
