The story
Crafted in Italy for Van Cleef & Arpels, this richly textured bracelet is composed of interlacing ropework links in 18K yellow gold. Each strand is formed from finely ridged gold, creating a continuous pattern of twists and crossings that gives the bracelet both visual depth and a supple, woven character. Along its length, cabochon rubies are set at regular intervals within polished gold bezels, their smooth, rounded surfaces providing a striking contrast to the intricate texture of the surrounding metal.
The design draws upon the longstanding tradition of gold cordage and woven jewelry, a vocabulary particularly suited to the expressive goldwork of the twentieth century. Rather than relying on elaborate gemstone settings, the bracelet derives much of its character from the movement of its links and the interplay of polished and textured surfaces. The rubies introduce measured accents of color, lending warmth and richness without disturbing the composition's rhythmic continuity.
Measuring 18 cm in length and weighing 33.76 grams, the bracelet possesses a pleasing substance, while its articulated construction allows the gold to follow the natural curve of the wrist.
A continuous braid of golden threads, with rubies nestled like small drops of color between the folds.
