Ilias Lalaounis

Athens jeweler who revived ancient Greek and Byzantine designs in high-carat gold.

Ilias Lalaounis (1920–2013) drew on museum collections to create jewels inspired by Minoan, classical and Byzantine work, and later on science and nature. He was the first jeweler elected to the French Académie des Beaux-Arts.

Signature and marks

Pieces are usually stamped with the Lalaounis mark and the gold content, often 18 or 22 karat.
