1970s Van Cleef & Arpels Lapis Lazuli and Diamond Ring
Blue Carved into a Shell of Light
Lapis lazuli unfolds in deep blue ribs around a bright diamond clasp.
This 1970s Van Cleef & Arpels ring is sculpted from richly carved lapis lazuli, its fluted surface swelling in concentric folds like a small blue shell. Across the center, two textured yellow gold elements are set with diamonds totaling approximately 0.58 carat: one a rounded cluster of brilliant stones, the other a tapered leaf-like panel, creating a measured contrast between saturated lapis and white fire. The gold shank is lightly worked at the shoulders, continuing the ring’s tactile, hand-finished character. Signed and made in France, it is a compact jewel with the bold material language and sculptural confidence of the period.
A gathered blue form, crossed by gold and diamond like a flash of light on water.
